Summer Football ECA

SUMMER FOOTBALL CAMP: JULY 13-17 2015

As the weather recovered from the first major Typhoon of the year, our group of footballers gathered early Monday morning, excited to be part of the first TES Summer Football Camp!

After meeting Coach Dan Calvert, from Master Football Academy (MFA), the future football stars were straight into ball related warm up exercises. It was clear to see we had a dedicated and talented group of footballers from Years 2 to 5!

One of the key areas that Coach Dan wanted to work on with the group was to raise their awareness of the players around them by encouraging them to look up, speak up and listen to each other as they undertook different drills which helped develop their passing and movement.

In the final hour of each morning, the groups had a game in which they got to put their work into game situations. Coach Dan chose the too hardest working players to be captains and then the teams were chosen. The captains would set the formation with their team and then get underway.

In the game situation Coach Dan impressed upon the children that they need to use the space on the pitch, usually found down the sides of the pitch. At various points of the game, Coach Dan would stop the play and help the players think about where they were on the pitch and how they could create more space, or avoid dangerous situations in front of goal, or just point out some special rules like how to do a throw in or kick off.

Over the course of the week, the players really developed their awareness, and their positional play on the pitch and as a result there was a lot of very good football being played.

We have a very bright future for TES football, as this group of young players showed how working hard on drills combined with developing their awareness and their tactical understanding on pitch, can create a very strong football team!

Well done to all the players who joined the Football Camp this summer and we look forward to more vacation football camps in the future!
